Iris tuberosa

Iris tuberosa (Iris tuberosa)

A closer view of this. A different color than most irises.

I love these, not showy, but interesting. I have mine at the front of the border otherwise they wouldn't be noticed, unfortunately the strappy leaves grow very long.

I am hoping these last. Most of the Iris group need a cold period, colder than what I can give them, or they quickly fade away. The big named varities don't do well, so I am giving the species types a try.

They have naturalised on banks in the lanes in Cornwall, one of our warmer counties.

I have some kind of Iris- white with yellow. Been around for near 50 years. Pops up here and there. Like 4 Oclocks,I never seem to have to wait long for them to show up.

I am starting to get the spring bulbs already - freesias, calla lily, jonquils; and the daylilies are starting to put up scapes. If you have any seedlings with Eder 0084 as a parent, it just got registered by him with the name Fuoco del Sole. It will be official in 2018.

I've missed so many pictures Wylie I will look through them all.
Oh thanks for that I'll check my list for eder seedlings think the lovely yellow with the appliqué throat was one but I'll double check.
Wow freesias and calla lillies already !! they flower summer time here .

Wind gusts to at least 100 kph are common for winter storms; so I have spent a lot of effort growing wind blocks. I am pruning the trees in an order where they grow back before the next one is cut. Sometimes it is almost impossible to walk up the street to take the trash to the bin. It is a big wind tunnel that can knock you off your feet.
I have 2 blogs you might also find interesting on Moraeas. Today, I even have a couple of flowers on a Dahlia imperialis, which never died back.
