Oh my! Never seen one like this before. I had to Google it and it seems that the male can vary in colour from white to almost black. You learn something everyday...hopefully!
Great picture Amy.

I couldn't believe it I thought I was seeing things , No I didn't fall or trip over but very nearly it heard me coming and made a dash for cover ...I shall always be looking out for it when we go that way in future ...

Lol Sandra / Sue I'm not as nimble as I once was , I must stop to think before I leap , I haven't heard them being called that before Vjd but I can see why there's a distinct collar on the brown Pheasants neck ...

That's stunning. I have never seen one either. My step-dad will know it...he's a Pheasant admirer!

What a lucky sighting & that you got a picture, Amy. I've never seen one either & I was intrigued enough to look it up, the info said black & white are seen here & there but don't usually last that long due to their lack of camouflage, I suppose that is a distinct disadvantage especially for the white ones. One person said they saw one at Lynford Arboretum.

I can see the colour would be a disadvantage

I can see the colouring would be a disadvantage Mari , I haven't been to Lynford Arboretum for years we often use to go when we lived nearer and the children were smaller for walks through the Arboretum and round the lakes ... Thanks for showing an interest :o)
