Quite nice while flowering! I first saw these on Gerry's allotment some years ago & since then I've seen them flowering in other people's gardens.

Hi Sandra,they were a gift from my son's garden, took a few years to actually get going, now going mad and also popping up all over that bed, very easy to remove though....

David I first saw them in my son's garden in Boston, he gained them as freebies from the neighbour, never had seen any locally, took a while for me to actually find out the name, today I saw an answer on the questions pages and find there is also a variegated variety....

I can't actually remember having seen the variegated variety but I did know such a form existed.

I'm on a mission David, I didn't know there was one...

Sisyrinchium striatum 'Aunt May' is the variegated one Lincslass. I had it but lost it after a couple of years. Not as hardy as this one which as you say, pops up all over the place but easy to pull out.

Oh thankyou Thorneyside, now I know what I'm looking for, anything that fills in my beds and borders now is a bonus for me, haven't the energy these days to cope with planting annuals every year so filling in with perennials....

I didn't particularly like the plant after it has finished flowering. For one thing it sets seed like nobody's business & the leaves die back in a horrible black mess!

I do like the flowers though! As you say it's easy to pull out but very invasive!

Its ok Balcony I only have it in the one bed so can keep on top of it, I agree about the black , it can be very off putting but I disguise it amongst other tall planting, lol.....
