Waddy, did you ask about Epson salts. I read this some where and I sprinkle in April about a cup or so, depending on size of plant, around the base area. Scruff it in. It seems to make the roses so much more abundant, it's remarkable.
Be sure and do it early, you might have to do it earlier than I do in Vermont. i wait a bit after the weather gets somewhat warmer, end of April... This year I really had a bumper crop. I cannot underestimate the value of compost and a bit of rose fert.
