From this aspect the tall ornamental grass and Amaranthus are concealing the blue Juniper, and hiding the arch too.

your garden looks lovely, what are the deep red plants on the bottom left and the far right hand corner. I think I used to have something similar but cant remember what they were called

Hi Newtogarden, the ones with dark red tassels are another Amaranthus, but the red kind. They self seeded everywhere from ones I grew last year, and I found that the seeds came up wherever I put our home made compost. Will not compost the plants this year, so that I can have them just where I want them, not everywhere.

Not everything does well in our soil because it is very sandy and the weather dry, This particular border is more fertile than the rest of the garden. The previous owner had ducks, geese etc, and before that various animals were kept here inc pigs. I think they fertilised the soil well.
