A sure sign of Autumn

Am yearning to try these... They are so pretty. How many did you originally plant? Do the critters dig them up?

originally 3 bulbs two years ago,I think they would be eaten in the open ground.here by squirrel and mice.I grow all of these small bulbs in wooden troughs all of which are under the cover of my glass/alpine house in winter, the ones containing woodland plants are moved outside march to September the ones with Mediterranean bulbs stay in the warm all year around so fair bit of work but means I can enjoy them in the coldest wet weather without discomfort.
they will of course grow and flower in pots but personally I find it difficult to maintain them at flowering size,so do what works for me.

Thanks so much of all the information... We have the squirrel-chipmunk problem too. The early bulbs are my favorites after the gloomy winters we have had over the past couple of years. Vermont without snow is not pretty!

they will come in the coming months

They look so pure and perfect, especially against that dark backdrop. I grew the hardy pink ones in my last garden, but the rain and wind always flattens them, so now I just enjoy other people's on here.

I've grown Species Crocuses on the balcony in pots every year for the last 15 years! I'd never be without them! They are the most cheerful of flowers to start the spring with. As I grow them in pots on the balcony railing they are at eye-level so I don't have to bend down to appreciate them!
