Asclepias? I see Annie's Annual has that and I think some cultivars. I grew it before..looks tropical.

This is actually a perennial i"ve grown from seed 3 years ago. Comes back bigger each year. Very pretty orange flowers

Is it Asclepias curassavica? This one pops up in my yard all the time. It was pretty sparse during the drought, though.
It lives for 3 or 4 years.
The butterflies love this plant!

this is asclepias tuberosa or butterfly milkweed. The tubers get larger and multiply each year. Not sure how long it lives for but i plant a few seeds every year.

It's the one native to the Mid-West. That explains why it's an annual or dies back in winter.

OMG! It's dead! You do have a lot of seeds now.
This plant typically will grow here for about 5 years or so before it dies.
