Brian we have a Combi boiler here it's stopped working we haven't any heat or hot water it's freezing it was wooly socks and hot water bottles last night , I doubt if the repair company will come anytime soon as the surrounding roads are blocked with snow they should have arrived first thing this morning ..
we had a gas bill this morning for our first week its over £50 ,can't believe its that much and that's without electric we're missing our woodburner :o( ..

Sooner you get a woodburner in the better
One thought this weather the condense pipe can freeze and that will stop your combi working usually a small white plastic pipe no more than about an 1in diameter will be coming through an outside wall feeding into a drain pipe if you can reach it pour a couple of kettles of hot water over it ,worth a try.

Oh dear,Amy.so sorry to hear your Boiler isn't working, and hope it gets fixed very soon..I believe Brian is correct,as I have been seeing lots of local queries on F/Book,about why their boilers aren't working, and looking for a gas fitter..and the tip he suggests seems to be a common reason ..the condensing pipe freezing ..all saying the same,to pour hot water on it,but not boiling..The weather is appalling here too, although we were lucky enough to have a gritter come up our road this morning....oh,and by the way,I love your photo ,such a lovely little plant..take care, and hope you don't have to be in the cold for much longer...xxx

Thanks Sandra ,Brian our son told us about the condense pipe last night Tony was out in the snow looking for it in the dark he found what he thinks is the pipe(no drain pipe near it ) and has poured warm /hottish water over it repeatedly since then but still no joy . the repair men haven't arrived yet we're just beginning to feel cold since the place has cooled down Brrr looks like we might be in for another cold night ....xxx

So sorry you are suffering in this cold weather, Amy. The colour on that anemone is gorgeous, by the way.

The gas repair man has been and gone ,you were right Brian it was the frozen pipe we were concentrating on the wrong one ,the frozen one was hidden under the snow ,I'm pleased to say the Rads are warming up we'll be snug tonight .. :o))

Oh,that's great news Amy..thank goodness it was that, and not a big repair job...We recently replaced our old boiler, and the condense pipe goes down the inside of a kitchen cupboard, and along the back into the U bend under the sink,so we should be ok..we didn't have one with the old one...enjoy the warmth from now on :o) xx

Sorry Amy.misunderstood my knowledgeable OH....not into the U bend..! well, how would I know ?? Lol xx

That's beautiful Amy. Sorry to hear you've been having boiler trouble. These things never happen at convenient times do they? Will you have a Woodburner fitted in the future?

What a fabulous blue Amy...
I'm so pleased to hear your boiler is working again and keeping you both warm. You've certainly had it rough Amy, lighter nights on the way now, and I'm sure we're in for a good summer, we certainly deserve it after this last week! X

That's a really lovely plant, Amy! I like the colour very much! I hope you post a photo of the pink one when it flowers as well! I've never grown this plant. Is it a houseplant? Reminds me of African Violets!

Glad your boiler wasn't suffering from any serious problems! Now you will be able to keep warm again & have hot water.

A few weeks ago we had problems with ours as well it wouldn't come on whatever I tried. I thought a fuse had blown somewhere inside but the engineer told me the water pressure had fallen too low & the boiler had turned itself off to protect itself! Fortunately it happened before any of this nasty weather happened & since then we have had no more problems with it!

I have been looking at these on Edrom website this week. They have loads and loads of them. Stunning plants! I haven't succumbed though...yet.

Karen nice prices too , the European varieties are are hardy and easy, the pricey Japanese ones not hardy and require a fair bit of attention at least they do where I am ,
Example 5in pot full of buds new leaves just emerging lack of sun and buds very slow leaves however grow fast and cover the buds now the flowers have opened they are covered by the leaves and I cannot see them.some react this way but not all
moral start with the European ones

Amy, how long would you say this plant flowers for? Is seed easy to germinate, do you know? I might like some plants for our balcony.

26 Mar, 2018

These have flowered for ages David as you can see from the date this was taken the 2nd of March and are still blooming the pots were outside when we moved here I decided to bring some inside which flowered almost instantly due to the warmth ,the ones outside are also flowering but came into bloom later than the ones brought inside ... I found the seeds easy to germinate my seed came from Bjs I'll collect some for you when its time ...

BTW we're still having boiler trouble the engineer is coming tomorrow to put a detector thing on to find out what the problem is and why the water pressure keeps dropping to a dangerous level we will be without water or heating until they come back ( hopefully) on thursday to look at the results of the test .. :o(

27 Mar, 2018

Thanks for that, Amy! ??

Sorry to hear about your troubles with your boiler, we also had trouble a couple of months ago &, like you, it was due to the water pressure being too low. Fortunately the housing association fixed it for us the next day! Though I didn't know what the fault was until the engineer explained that the boiler had shut down to protect itself. It hadn't occurred to me to check the water pressure though other tricks I've tried before have always worked.

Hope you get yours fixed before the weather turns too cold.
