Look who came to visit today. She came right up to me.

This bird was very friendly. She was screeching outside my door and made me come outside to see. She stood at my feet, 'asking' to be held, but I hesitated. She seemed to be OK. I felt she wanted something or was trying to tell me something. A treat maybe? I have treats everywhere for her she can get on her own - all kinds of berries, nuts & the sunflowers are ripe, all kinds of bugs & things like that. The other birds fly off if I bat an eyelash. This one came calling for me! I've never seen it before and it seems blatantly out of place. After about 20 minutes, she just flew off. What could it all mean? I have seen flocks around here in the past, but never got this close. An Omen? I'm a little unhinged.

It can only be good Paul if a beautiful bird calls on you , it can't be anything bad ,don't worry ...

oh thanks Amy. Good to know.

Perhaps she was just hungry Paul, and was asking for some sunflower seeds to be given to her. When the weather turns colder, we sometimes get the Robin or Blackbird come down around our feet when we put food down for them.

it sounds to me like she's an escapee. I lost my little lovebird that way..someone left the screendoor to the deck ajar..and he just went for a look around... It happened twice: the first time he stayed in the bushes and I was able to get him to come to his cage... the second time I wasn't at home and my hub couldn't entice him. When I came home two days later he was gone... I looked everywhere...and put up posters but he never returned. I hope someone took him in. It was in October and very cold at night. Maybe you could post her pic in the neighbourhood. Since she had a band I'm sure someone is looking for her.

I'm so sorry to hear about your lost lovebird Lori. I hope he found a happy home. Well, I've done a little research here and you are partially correct about these Monk Parrots. In 1967, a whole colony escaped from a shipment at JFK that was intended for resale at NYC pet shops. These birds weren't having it. Apparently, they settled in the surrounding parklands, which is a wildlife sanctuary, and became naturalized. They are now a thriving population of naturalized parrots. They can live a long time. That must be were she came from because she was definitely in her element and did the 'happy dance' when she saw me. Then she gave me kiss (I'm not making this up) and flew off. She appeared to be healthy, well fed and not wanting for anything. Also, she is wearing a red bracelet. Who puts a bracelet on their pet bird? That just added to the mystery. I'm going to post a blog with more pictures.

If the bird is friendly it may simply be lost. do you suppose it might have been affected by the hurricane? Maybe she's a refugee from the Bahamas. cool weather is approaching perhaps you could entice her in.
