Thanks all I enjoy growing these just to see what colours and patterns evolve , Anjet I use them for decoration in a basket they last a long time alone, or if you clear varnish them they last for a months ...

Fabulous Amy....I always look forward to seeing them. You do so well, I'm like Thorney, tried once, but no success at all!

They look wonderful,Amy..do you remember giving me one, when we met up ! suffice to say, mine didn't make it for long either, even though Russell bought a tin of clear varnish,to preserve it..:o) You must have the right knack of keeping them longer than we did ..Lol. x

Thanks Paul ,Janey , yes I remember Sandra that was a good day wasn't it maybe your gourd hadn't dried out enough , they do need to be properly dry to keep them xx

It was a good day,Amy,and you are probably correct about not letting it dry long enough, but 'some ' people mentioning no names, always want to do things ,like yesterday ! Lol.x

Amy - how long does a gourd last. I've seen them fashioned into ladles. Cut one open and attached a bamboo handle - boom, you have a ladle. lol! I still have my pumpkin from last year - I think I'm just going to chuck it. I want a new one! lol. With these gourds, I see a potential arts & crafts lesson with the kids. You can really get creative with some yarn for hair & paint a face, a paper hat - The Gourd People? Am I over reaching? It worked for Humpty Dumpty, why not a gourd? Just an idea. lol! They seem like they need a face but what would a gourd say?

Thanks Ff ,Kate, Hb make sure you give them something tall to climb up or even a hedge to clamber over they like freedom ..Paul we use to make animals and funny people etc. out of them for the horticulturist society we belonged to it was a competition to see who could grow and decorate the funnies ones , great fun ..

A design of patterns and colours. What do you do with them, Amy? I'm never very sure.
