I've a small piece of garden by the greenhouse and here, red valerian has grown very lush. The Hummingbird Hawk Moth loves it, so I'm hoping to see one or two in July, this is when they seem.to fly in. Peppered amongst it are wild poppies..

I like the combination of colours, Janey. I have the white form all over the small front garden. Not sure if moths like that as much. Also saw a very pale pink recently in someone's garden which I really covet. Never seen that shade before.

How exciting if you do see that wonderful moth Janey β¦ and if you managed a pic too π. x

That's a great combo! Valerian grows quite well around here too. In some places I would consider it a weed - albeit, a lovely weed! π

I have trouble getting this to grow in my garden.

Thanks Ange. I used to have the white and the pale pink from Mum's garden, but only the red has survived here.
Yes to see it with the poppies this year is a delight..:))
I know Sheila, I hope it will visit. Remember Dawnsaunt? They would visit her place too and I remember Dawn had some really good pics of them. X
Thanks Balc! Yes it is a wild herb. I do keep it under control as it does enjoy self seeding all over!
I wonder why that is Sbg, just the wrong conditions?

Yes I do remember Dawnsaunt Janey β¦ we donβt see much of her these days β¦ itβs a shame.

I think like Karen, she got fed up with the problems this site has had Sheila. It would be nice to know how both of them are doing..and see their gardens now. x
Really Sandra? Mine are site day the foot of a wall, this one has stretched 2 foot south in this piece of garden, which is by my greenhouse. They are in full sun. Well then pink and orange dahlias together Sandra..haha...:)) x

I love it Janey ,we use to call it Uncle Billy's weed because nobody knew what it was called it was in an old chaps garden whose name was Billy ..
Do you know we walked along the sea front today , these were growing thickly all the way along the edge of the path they looked glorious beside the sand dunes ..xx

Amy! Haha good name.
That sounds heavenly, I can imagine them there, a perfect location too. Were you at Great Yarmouth?

Hi Janey ,yes how did you guess Lol , they've reinstated some waterways named after Venice waterways we went to see them , they are lovely planted up all round with bridges at different locations each section is different , it was very cold with the wind blowing off the sea ...
Apparently they were dug out by hand it was a job given to men who came back after the last war who didn't have any work to return to , it must have been an enormous task . after a time they fell into ruin and have only recently been made good again x there's little cafes dotted about which is nice for a hot chocolate xx

We visited the Venice waterways in Great Yarmouth about 3 years ago. I took a lot of pictures! Now that I think about I could have made a blog with some of them! ππ€·ββοΈ

That sounds really interesting Amy, be lovely to see..:) yes what an arduous task that must have been too. It does sound like they've made a good job of restoring them.
It's taken.me back to our trip to Venice two years ago, it was very cold and wet Amy..brrr..

Amy I've found at least 10 photos I took of the Venetian Waterways back in July 2019 on my computer!
We couldn't have met up in part because we didn't know previously of their existence. We only came on them by accident as we were waiting for our daughter with her 3 kids. We walked without anything in mind along the seafront & them we found them. By this time my wife was tired & hot so sat down on a bench & I went exploring!
As we were impatient to see the gkids we didn't stay long & in fact they met us just outside & then we all went to the funfair.

They certainly sound really interesting to see. Are they planted up with coastal plants?
I'd assume they would have to be to survive the winter by the edge of the North Sea.
It's been so cold here for most of the day, wind from the east. Then out comes the Sun and the heat is astonishing! My plants are so tall,
I think I'll change the type of plants for next year..

It is striking Julia. Yes I remember a holiday there and all those walls edging the roads with valerian, just lovely.
