Yes SBG I'm very pleased they've survived.

I'm having a go at growing a lychee stone at the moment. Planted it on Thursday. I'm pleased these plants have done well. They will go back outside when the frosts have gone in the spring.

It looks terrific! Avocado trees can grow into a pretty large tree in not too long a time. I saw a big tree in London on YouTube. It was loaded with fruit, also.
Here in San Diego we’re the avocado capital of the U.S. They grow everywhere.
Lychee is easy to germinate and generally grows pretty slowly. There’s Lychee trees here in the ground that have been here since the late 1890’s. They’re extremely long-lived trees. Lychee loves acidic soil!

Hi Delonix, The Avocados took three months to germinate, but I didn't give up on them. I hope they survive another summer outside. These are in the conservatory for the winter. Thanks for your useful advice.

Will avocado trees grow outside there?
It can be kept small by pruning. Most want to grow up to 30 to 50 ft tall, though.

I think it would be too cold in the winter Delonix. I did prune the main stem last year and several side shoots appeared. Pot luck at the moment.

Avocado trees will tolerate freezing temps for a little while, depending on variety. The Mexicola variety will tolerate very cold temps, down to 18 degrees f. The West Indian and Guatemalan varieties are the more tropical varieties like Hass and Reed (which are grown commercially here in San Diego).

We love Avocados but I don't think my plants will produce. Thanks for all your information Delonix. I didn't know that they could survive the cold.

This is the YouTube link for the large avocado tree in south London, England.
I was surprised it looked so good and had lots of fruit. They grow like this one all over the low elevations of California. Some old trees grow to 60 ft tall in coastal California. There’s many very large 100 year old avocado trees in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Thanks for that information Delonix Just had a look. Very interesting. We'll take a look next time we get them at what variety and where it's come from.
