these do seem to thrive on neglect and stay very dry due to the planter being a beggar to water.

I have a few on the rockery and in chimney pots and you’re right, Eileen - they do thrive on a certain amount of neglect!

It is always an early flowerer, that could be that it is against the kitchen wall and relatively sheltered.

What a strange name for a pretty plant. I like these saxifrages but they're very hit-and-miss with me.
