My Medinilla is flowering for the first time since 2018. For some reason it doesn’t bloom every year. It grows well outside here in San Diego, CA. I’ve had this plant since 1999 and it’s maybe only bloomed 10 times in 23 years. Photo taken Nov. 2, 2022.

Janey,
It was a very hot and extremely humid summer here.
We had some unbelievably hot morning low temps 85 to 88 degrees (29 to 31c) and daytime highs of over 100 degrees (38 c). 105 to 110 degrees (40.5 to 43.3 c) isn’t unusual during September/October when it’s dry, but over 100 degrees when it’s humid during summer is unusual here.

It's a really pretty colour, Andy. I'm loving the teeny tiny flowers too. Definitely loved the hot and humid season then!

Kate,
Yes, it’s a tropical plant native to the Philippines. It grows well outside in a shaded spot here.
I think it needs more fertilizer to bloom regularly.

They sell for about $100 in a 6-8" pot I hear. Pricy!

Wow! I guess I’ll have to take better care of this plant. Lol!

Very attractive, the conditions this year must have been just right for it to produce a flower, or looking at it another way, or totally wrong, so it had to flower to survive..:))
