Very small tangy fruit. Juice is tart but the peel is sweet.
Very good in cooking or as marmalade. Flowers have strong fragrance.
I keep it outside during summer . It lives with me for several years and looks quite happy .

I've tasted them here mostly as garnishes.

Amazing that you can grow these Klahanie … I think they’re only available in tins in the UK 🙂.

They are readily available in garden centers here, together with Meyer lemon trees . I do not like taste of Meyer lemons It is not very lemony (nor orange-y) for me.
I use preserved kumquats in cakes, some chicken dishes and they are good in beverages and salads.
Thank you Hywel, Ange and Sheila for commenting.

Never tried them. I've heard of them but that's all. Do you eat the peel as you say it's sweet?

Balcony,
they are less than an inch so yes, we put the whole thing in the mouth. In cooking we also use or chop the whole fruit.

It looks like a small orange. I always thought they were sour. My neighbor has a pretty big kumquat tree in their front yard. I ate one once and it was very sour.
I don’t grow citrus because I used to get lemons, oranges and the variegated lemonade lemons from my neighbors.

They are sour Delonix. Little like sour orange. I love citrus trees because of their lovely perfume when they bloom.
Lucky you have a generous neighbour.

My other neighbor used to give me all her lemons. She never used them.
I used to have a neighbor years ago, when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area who used to give me the most incredible, sweetest juicy tangerines. They tasted like candy. I’ve never tasted tangerines than good since.

Lucky you Klahanie I have had them and liked them ... Our Grandson's girlfriend gave me a book for Christmas called ...The Little Book of Marmalade ... it's brilliant loads of recipes ,last week I tried Crystallizing Orange peel I'm afraid it didn't work out very well, Oops ,It's back to the drawing board ( or recipe book ) ...

Delonix, I get lots of beet roots and zucchini from my neighbours. They grow more than they can eat and I like to make Borsch and zucchini bread (cake). I do not grow vegetables, only herbs. I was very disappointed with this year oranges (and similar) sold in the stores. Not much taste. We get most of our citrus from California.
--------------
Kate, They would be popular in holiday pastries. (Maybe?)

These make a very good marmalade Amy. I also "candy" an orange and lemon peels. Good in breakfast breads (in moderation). Good luck with your next batch.

Klahanie,
That sounds good. I love zucchini bread! 😂
The citrus at the beginning of the season was horrible! Now, it’s actually really good. I don’t know what the citrus treatment is to export the fruit to other states.
