Seeding oxlips.

We have lots of the yellows in the garden - they spread everywhere. I have no idea how the coloured ones came to be.

Really lovely. Perhaps the bees crossed the pollen over from the polyanthus.

They're all gorgeous, and exciting to see the red ones! Yellow is the colour of spring isn't it..

Yes, Linda, the bees must have had a lot to do with it.

I love yellow, Janey, but these come up like weeds! We've given a lot away to a nature group, otherwise they would end up in our green bin! They insinuate through all the borders. I brought the originals from our old garden where they filled our lawn from end to end and looked fabulous.

Love these Ange. We also had masses through the lawn in our old garden (no, cowslips actually) … must try again for the same look here 🙂.

If they like the spot they take off over a few seasons, don't they, Sheila? I just wish I could get primroses to be as prolific here. Now those I love..

Oxslips will not grow for me ... yet the wild Primroses I divided up are thriving now! They originally came from Devon and were bought while we were holidaying there many years ago.

Lucky you! I couldn't find any in my garden today, although I have planted lots over the time we have been here.

That's a real shame, Ange. I was only saying the other day how few wild flowers grow are to be found around here now. So many new houses being built, it's just awful ... :o(

Lovely spring mix, here, Ange. I’ll bet your previous lawn looked wonderful with a carpet of cheerful yellow!

I'm keeping some wild flowers grown from seed in this garden, Shirley. Perhaps they'll escape back into the wild: violets, oxlips, campion, bluebells, fritillaries, hellebores. You never know! The white centranthus is working its way under the front garden hedges! The moths enjoy it and it's easy to pull out if need be.

I miss the old grass, Kate. Some of the oxlips from our current borders have been placed in a wild area on the estate in the hope that they will spread over time.

Ange, did you see G.W. where Adam Frost was removing some turf and replacing it with wild flower meadow turf? If I had a bigger plot I would definitely do the same!

Yes, Sheila. I didn't know you could buy such a thing, but what a good idea, and I liked his way of using it in his border!

I have seen this 'meadow turf' for sale, advertised in magazines, quite a price too.
