Echinops and Bee

The Echinops has done well this year and the bees are loving the flowers, so prickly yet they manage..:)

Thanks Shirley. Poor bees must be starving after all the days of rain!

I think I helped a tired Bee by giving it sugary water the other day ... poor thing took hours to perk up and fly away!

Good photo Janey.
Well done Shirley for helping the bees. I've done the same here with several Bumblebees. It usually happens when the temperature changes from warm to cold quickly. The other reason is that they only have a certain period of gathering nectar and pollen and wear themselves out. I usually cup my hand and let them crawl on for a warm, but then I'm used to bees as I used to keep two hives of Honey bees. The Bumblebees can withstand lower temperatures because they have a furry body, and I've seen them working in the rain here.

Thanks both. Yes me and my granddaughter have done that. Isn't it a lovely feeling when you see them regain strength and then fly into the garden..:)
I bet you enjoyed having the hives Linda, and all the honey!

Janey, it certainly is a lovely feeling to be able to help the wildlife in some small way.
I did enjoy looking after the honeybees Janey and looking into the hive to make sure everything was o.k. I cooked with the honey we extracted and made wax candles with the excess wax I cut from the frames, ready to place them into the spinner that spun the honey out. I warmed the excess wax in some water in a saucepan to clean it, then let it set and reheated it. I poured it into the candle mould with a wick in the middle and let it set.

Sorry Linda for not replying earlier.
Do you know, I'd love to do what you have. Looking after the bees, I'd have a hive down the bottom of the garden. Can't really with pets though, Lottie is very inquisitive, I can imagine her nose with lots of stings on it!
I bet it was great making the candles, it does sound great. I love honey in natural yogurt..:)

Thank you Siris and Kate..:))
