Earlier this week!

Just a couple of days ago the butterflies were enjoying this old buddleia. Then the temps dropped and the hailstones covered the garden. I wonder where they shelter when it's so bad?

Poor things. I hope they escaped the hailstones.

I know, I do hope they found shelter..

Those Butterflies are stunning. I wanted to know where they shelter and found this information:

Some butterflies and moths ride out storms with high winds, heavy rain and falling temperatures by seeking shelter. Refuges include the underside of leaves and tree limbs, leaf debris, crevices in rocks and clumps of tall grass. Winter storms will send some species climbing higher in tree limbs for added protection from cooler temperatures closer to the ground.

I saw a Red Admiral recently sunning itself on our car roof ... it's a white car so perhaps it absorbed the heat that day.

Thanks for the information Shirley, it's a warmer day today, hopefully they'll be able to feed ok..:)
Yes they do like to sunbathe don't they..

Janey, sunny and warm here too. I have seen three white butterflies around this morning plus a Red Admiral in the vine again. Plenty of Bees on the Sedums too ... hooray!

Beautiful capture, Janey! Hoping the lovely butterflies found shelter, I'm sure they would have a spot nearby.

Thank you both..

I know this is a bit late in seeing this lovely photo Janey, and it's great that you have so many butterflies. We've hardly seen any this year on the Budliahs around here.
We did the butterfly count for the conservation people and we saw one or two in our count.

Hi Linda, it's not been a good year for them has it..:( This old white buddleia does seem to be a magnet for them, more so than my deep purple one. It does get very late afternoon sun too.
I was surprised to see the two Commas along with the Red Admiral!
It seems a while ago now, it's been very fresh and chilly here today..

Yes Janey, it's certainly getting cooler. We took down the tomato plants yesterday. The beans are coming down today, and I'm giving the garden a good tidying up now.
