That's a lovely orchid!

I have an orchid with a flower stem that has lots of buds developing but it will be some time yet till they open! I've had it at least 5 years I think & every year it flowers for me! :) I also have 2 others but for the moment there are no signs of flowering stems emerging. :(

That’s great! Orchids typically bloom heaviest here in late winter through spring and then many bloom late summer and winter, depending on orchid species and varieties.

My purple Dendrobium kingianum is in full bloom right now. I’ve had it for probably 15 years. My Epidendrum hybrids typically flower all year, but have no flowers on them now.

Overall, I’m really bad at growing orchids. I’ve killed so many in the past!😔. My favorites were the chocolate orchid and cattleyas purple and pure yellow.

We all kill one type of plant - or at least we can never get them to grow! I'm particularly bad at growing Lavenders - I've been given several & they always die on me! I think I overwater them!

That’s my exact problem with orchids, I overwater them. I worked with a lady who had a big lath-structure and had hundreds of different orchids, she said she would water them once every three weeks, never fertilized them and they grew and bloomed like crazy for decades. I saw pics of all the different varieties of Cattleyas flowering. Such luck!

I have seen photos of displays like that on Flickr but I could never replicate anything like it!

I spotted a new scape on my 2nd Orchid a day or two ago but it will be several months before it flowers. I don’t mind I'm just happy to keep them alive & hope they will flower again - year after year! :)
