It's good to get back to "proper" gardening! It's been 12 years since we did this sort of heavy work - and my weight has suffered! This is my "green gym"! We are told that we are supposed to be slowing down at our age - but we are both really enjoying this heavy work!

Would you divulge your age? I am 55, look 99 and feel 25 lol.

I was 60 last January, but feel 35 (though trapped in a body somewhat older!). I still work full time - with a team in their 20s and 30s - and that keeps me thinking young. With the weight that has crept on over the years I don't always feel as fit as I would like - so am looking forward to getting toned up with this new venture. I don't have time to go to the gym and am a firm believer in exercise for a purpose - I cycle to work and do a lot of gentle exercise in the garden. I already feel fitter after two days of heavy work. The aim is not to get injured!

You look Fab, Take care doing all that heavy lifting. I love the company of younger people and I find that they also keep me young as they do you.

Good on you! I used to work in a nursing home, a few elderly people come in at around the age of 60ish, they came in quite strong, in no time, they totally gave up, because in the home they have so much help. It got very sad to see them waste away like that.

Hey hang on folks - 60 is NOT OLD !!!!!!!

28 Aug, 2008

In our borough "older people" are those over 50!!!! We could go on for years and years......and years!

Good Grief!!! Why are 60 year olds going into a home? If anybodody comes looking for me im off!!!
I agree - 60 is just the beginning of the 60's. People dont retire here in the uk until they are 70 -75, the government like to get their monies worth from taxes before they dump the 'elderly'.
I do know what you mean about the elderly deteriorating when they go into homes though, and it is VERY sad.
I took my mum and dad (hes a lot better) out shopping yesterday and unfortunately my mum forgot to bring her head along, she had left it asleep in bed i think. We laugh about it when she is having one of 'those' days.

Last night our kids raised their eyebrows when I said that we'd had a"dirty weekend"! We had to strip off our muddy wet clothes before we could go into the house.

I guess it's probably a good thing that most photos we take are of our PLANTS rather than of our gardening CLOTHES !

Sometimes I wear really tatty garments if I'm doing a messy garden task where I expect my clothes will get ripped to shreds.

It's good to know you enjoyed your 'dirty weekend'. LOL

Did you lose any weight Marie?

My thighs are slimmer and my trousers are dragging on the ground - and that's after two weekends! It's much more enjoyable than on a rolling road in the gym!

...get stuck in girl !

Age is a good wine, or a ring in a tree,
After a tipple or two, you'd probably run rings 'round me !

I'm 38, clueless and knackered already !
:-)

But Cluelesskev, at least you're a lot greener than everyone else.

...must be a shade of 'envy'...!

I'd like to see Homebase mix that shade into a pot.

"5L of envy please, with a hint of embarrassment, and while I'm here, do you have the 'naivety' shade in a sampler pot ? I'm 'branching' out !".
