A couple of questions: Do you find that growing plants high up in your balcony, you have different 'bugs' pestering the flowers than you would at ground level ?

For instance, in England we do have cases of snails climbing up houses, much higher than you would think possible.

Maybe your living 'up in the clouds' (well not exactly) you get more flying insects around but less nuisance from ground bugs like slugs?

Second question:

Do you have any ways of collecting rain water on your balcony, or do you have to water everything with tap water?

Oh my gosh I thought I was safe from thems horrible creatures! Oh I hope this doesn't spread throughout slugland that they can do this!! I will have nightmares now! lol ! We also are nortorious for the beasties but I have not seen any up here (yet?) Perhaps another reason to stay up in the clouds ay? As far as other thingies I really have not experienced much of anything! EXCEPT the dreaded aphids! They ruinned my Nasturtiums and I freaked out and rather than fight them I got rid of the 'sturtiums. I had Nasturtiums at my first apt. last year ( you can see my first postings ) and I never had any problems at all. As far as water, I am completely covered overhead so to have a rain barrel or catcher would be a feat as well as space wise, I don't have a cellar door either, hahahaha!! But I can go out and sit and enjoy the rain if the wind isn't blowing too hard. We get quite a bit of wind here. So as for watering my garden it is from tap and everything has to be on a plant saucer like the clear ones or.... I have to be a very dainty gardener so to speak can't be sloppy! Got to not have dirt falling off the balcony, can't sweep the dirt over the edge, can't shake rugs over etc. It is definetly a challenge especially when I have planting and repotting to do both inside & out! I do drool over all the butterflies so many of you get and miss that.

Ooh, I bet that is difficult Gloria, all the potting and bits etc. I'm quite messy at doing things, still if it gets windy, well you can't help that can you!:-)
