I hear them barking and see them at night but not in the day.

Two fox cubs have worked their way down the gardens over the last few days, leaving a trail of destruction. Children's shoes, dog's toys, my plugs of plants! There are two gardens with chickens - luckily they haven't been touched.....yet!

O dear i take it your not a fan of them.

No one leaves a greater trail of destruction than humans. And nothing causes so much deliberate cruelty to other creatures and plants than humans. So don't run foxes down please - they are just being foxes.

These photos are fantastic!
We often hear the foxes in the woods across the road
and very occasionally see them as they dash across the road through the wood, but locally foxes and badgers are more likely to be seen as casualties hit by a passing vehicle. It makes my stomach turn over, if only people would accept the speed limits and remember that wild life are likely to be crossing roads too. If the casualties were humans it would be a very different story.

I know what you mean working on the edge of the New Forest I often see the butchery caused by speeding drivers.

Oh...better and better... They are becoming more plentiful here as well, but as you mentioned road carnage...saw one crushed on the 417 last weekend... traffic moving at 120 klicks... between concrete abuttments...the poor thing didn't stand a chance..it's a wonder how it got into that spot to begin with.. We have immunization programmes for the wild foxes for rabies...vacine charged peices of liver dropped from helicopters in areas of rabies reports. rabies kills the wild creatures and any domestic animals they come into contact with...scary disease. It can be transmitted to humans too, and the treatments are barbaric.

Fortunately we don't have rabies in England but it's just a short hop across the channel where there is rabies, up to now our strict controls have kept it at bay.
