Megaskepasma erythrochlamys-Brazilian Red Cloak

Megaskepasma erythrochlamys-Brazilian Red Cloak (Megaskepasma erythrochlamys)

This is my Brazilian Red Cloak plant in bloom. It is a people-stopper in bloom. It has red bracts and small white flowers. It is very easy to grow and propagate from cuttings.

This plant is actually very different from Ondontonema. Its leaves are very large and quilted and the bracts can grow to almost one and a half feet long and the flowers are white. This plant grows much larger; to almost 18 feet tall with about the same spread. They both are in the same family of Acanthaceae though.

The red "justicia".... :o)
These flowers are used to border the garden flowerbeds, but are not allowed to grow taller than 5 inches.
Yours looks very tall.

Aleyna:

This is not a Red Justicia - Justicia coccinea. This plant even though it's called Brazilian Red Cloak is native to Venezuela. It grows very large...my plant is only allowed to grow to 8 or 9 feet / 2.5 or 3 meters tall. However, it's ultimate potential height is over 18 feet / 5.5 meters tall.

Delonix,
I was pretty sure it was a red justicia, so I googled it.
Thats wt i found:
Megaskepasma erythrochlamys ‘Brazilian Red Cloak’, ‘Brazilian Plume’, ‘Red Justicia’
‘Brazilian Cloak’ is a herbaceous shrub that is very showy and fast growing. Native to Venezuela where it grows in tropical woodlands, this evergreen plant bears dark red/scarlet terminal flowers from early autumn into winter. In full bloom, ‘Brazilian Cloak’ is breathtaking with its large flowers against huge leaves.
:o)
but... I'll take your word that it is not a red justicia... :o)

Aleyna:

You got a lot of information there. It all sounds correct...from what I've read and experienced with my plants.

They also develop a pretty thick woody trunk...and they can bloom all year in full Sun. However, my plants always bloom starting in late Summer through very early Spring.
