The light is amazing in this photo. Sometimes when I have light in the background like that it washes out the rest of the color. Great capture! You've got the silhouette of the trunks and the sprinkling of color throughout :) :) :)

Tastey - thanks - to be honest, I was surprised how well it came out - my camera (like yours it sounds) tends to make pictures a bit pale when there's lots of light involved. :-)

this photo has great atmosphere Sid, This is the sort of picture I like to paint. I shall get the paintbrushes out when we get settled in a bit more. Had the chimney sorted yesterday!! The workmen took it apart and put it together again and made a fab job.

I've just got the brushes out today and am using Acrylics for the first time. In fact I have quite enjoyed the experience and may well continue to use them in my art work. The Baptist church have asked me to paint a few pictures for Christmas so I am painting from my imagination a picture of the shepherds guarding their sheep sitting by the fire on the hills of bethlehem with a light blue going to dark blue sky with a few starts twinkling up there. I have one of the angels singing to do as well. I have drawn it already but will paint it in a few days time. Thought I'd get a little gold paint for the halo's just to add a splash of colour. Thanks for letting me use the photo. I've had a go at pastels but couldn't get on with them very well. Just enjoy your artwork as it doesn't have to look like a photograph to be a good picture, it's what people see in the picture for themselves that counts.

Hi Lindak - Acrylics are one thing I've never used - I paint in oils alot of the time, occasionally watercolours, and I love working with charcoal. I'm just learning with pastels at the moment. I had a 'try' with them about a year ago and hated them! But now I'm doing a little evening class and learning how to use them properly and I'm starting to work out how to get the good effects with them - the key seems to be to keep 'fixing' it with fixative spray. I posted a picture of butterflys I did recently with them. The hardest thing I find with pastels is that you're pretty much stuck with the colours you've got - not easy to blend them together to creat a new colour, if you see what I mean. Your Xmas scenes sound really lovely and festive - I do hope you will post pictures of them - I think several people on here draw/paint, so I'm sure a lot of people would be interested to see them :-)
