When I first got mine it was in bloom; but after 10 years of no blooms I gave up on seeing mine in bloom again.

I have a Schlumbergera...erm....
actually, i've got two now, as i split the one into two plants a few days ago...
It was risky i guess ? especially as the plant is in bud...
But Thankfully, the two halves are doing okay, though i do have them on my observation list LOL
My plant usually flowers twice a year...Just before Easter and just before Christmas... Does anyone else have this plant, that flowers twice a year ?

Yes, Gardenogre, mine flowers more than once, and like you it split into 2 when I repotted it. Both bits are now in flower than it will stay quiet for a while but send out a few flowers now and again!

Double flowering is common when it likes the conditions its getting. Kudos Janey and Gardenogre. If it isn't flowering....GG..:-) it might need to get cold or get dark, I'm betting that doesn't happen so much there. Might induce flowering to let it sit in a shady spot outdoors through fall into winter there. Or lock it in a cool dark cabinet for a few weeks in fall. There's another type that is the easter cactus that has rounded leaflets instead of spiked, that is hardest to bloom and the flowers are cylindrical instead of to the side like this. I've been trying to bloom one of those for years.
This is so beautiful Lori. I love the color!

Thanks GT... yes like poinsettias...schlumbergera are photo periodic...they require a very specific temperature range and almost equal amounts of light and darkness ....a root cellar is a good place to treat them or as GT says...put them in a dark place...like a cellar or cabinet...where it is cool and dark. I have another that is orange...should post.
