Acorn Christmas Tree

Acorn Christmas Tree

This is an acorn tree that I just finished making. We have an empty lot close by that has two large oak trees and I collected acorns a couple years ago with the intensions of making a tree.
Finally got around to doing it. I started with a foam cone and sprayed it with glue and then covered it with moss. Then the glue gun came out and it took quite a few hours to glue the acorns on. The star is a large seed pod with tooth picks inserted into it and then I sprayed it gold. I'm thinking that it needs a little something... maybe some red berries here and there but I'm not sure...

This looks great Mike! I like it like this. If I tried manuevering some red berries here and there, I'd end up graphing out a sheet to decide what pattern would look random. lol. Great work!

Very creative Mike. Nice.

Now I am thinking of trying the same with the many fallen pine cones outside my compound.

This is fantastic.
Well done.
Could the same design be made, using conkers from the horse chestnut tree ?

Have you got lots of conkers TT? You would end up with a brown shiny tree though and what about all the strings you've attached????? ;o)

Not lots of conkers, Janey ~
Just one very lovely Conker -
my Shetland Sheepdog.
He certainly would pull off all the strings. ;o)

I like it as is Mike, very nice work!
If you want you might add a small ring of greenery with berries around the base, but it doesn't really need it!!
You could also add a spray of clear gloss if you want. It would add a shiny look, which will reflect light.

Fantastic! I really like home made decorations. They seem so much nicer than a lot of plastic/artificial ones. Thanks for the instructions for this. I'm sure lots of us will be having a go at making one.
Merry Christmas!

Well done Mike. Looks great as it is.

Thank you for all the positive comments on the tree. I don't have that much time on my hands treesandthings... I usually put in about 45 to 50 hours a week at work :)

I've seen them done with pine cones Panther... What's great about the pine cones is that they open up once they are in the heat of the house and the tree gets nice and full.

Makes an elegant statement....I like Wohli's idea of the greenery and berries at the base.....

Thank you all for your positive comments. Once the holidays are over with I decided that I'm going to randomly add cranberries and also Wohlibuli's idea of greenery and more berries at the base.

I hope you'll get a chance to provide a photo of the finished project ~ if you have time. Thanks. :o)
