Aloe, Euphorbia species in bloom

Many Aloe, Euphorbia speices blooming in the cactus and succulent, dry garden next to the Rose Garden in Balboa Park, San Diego, Ca. All the following pics were taken yesterday (Dec. 20, 2008.

Marguerite, there's millions (literally) of these plant blooming right now of hundreds of species of Aloe. They grow wild in and along the canyon walls and cliffs and freeways and home landscapes everywhere.
Janey, all Aloe species as far as I know bloom in the Winter...with peak bloom in January.

In my garden I have Red hot pokers(Knifophia) in flower and still sending buds up. The flowers are very similar to the Aloe flowers though not a succulent type....but then living here I suppose they don't need to be!

Yes, the Knifophia flowers are very similar to Aloe flowers. Knifophia species grow here in California also.

I like the look of these, suspect they may not like Canadian weather unfortunately.

Gillian,
They will grow as a house plant...however, they do not tolerate temperatures too far below 32 degrees F. / 0 degrees C. with out damage or turning to mush.
