These plants are native to the low-elevation tropics of Madagascar.

I was just looking at these in the store yesterday. I love them. There are such lovely vibrant coloured hybrids. I saw some double flowered ones as well for the first time. They were gorgeous. I'm amazed that you can grow these outside Delonix. Strictly a houseplant here.

They are pretty tough plants...they will grow in most of Coastal California.
They tolerate drought very well...and bloom twice a year. They will tolerate
brief freezing temps....below that they turn to mush.
They are so easy to divide from cutting.

I think I will have to get one Delonix. I've been thinking about it for a while now. I would imagine I can put it outside in the summer time here but the winter would be WAY too cold. :o)
