Stunning place you have Elke....love the style of home....it reminds me of a couple of Edward Hopper prints I have!

Thanks, Janey - and everyone else for commenting. It didn't look like this when we bought it. Dark brown siding, dark brown windows -it was pretty miserable; we added the sunroom on the left, moved the entrance from where the tall window is now to the centre, shingled it and added the white surrounds to the windows - they haven't all been painted yet. My husband moved just about every interior wall and window on the ground floor too. With a view like this, it was too good a place to pass up just because it was ugly. A lot of Hopper's work reflected New England style architecture, didn't it? It's a very similar style here. Perhaps I'll do a blog /photos of Nova Scotia vernacular architecture to give you an idea - it's an interest of mine.

Hi Lori, we live just south of Lunenburg, on the South Shore Lighthouse Route. Take a look at my 'vernacular' blog for some more photos of the area. It's much milder down here than in the rest of NS. Love your other comment about preferring clover to lawn grass. When we lived in Quebec, we had neighbours who could never understand why our 'lawn' was so much greener and fresher looking than theirs, until they came over and discovered most of it was NOT the usual lawn grass at all, but things like clover.

Oh yes please Elke will love to see more of your architecture there. I love New England styles and when visiting our son in Sydney, the styles there were very similar too.
