Often wonder if dogs of the same species recognise each other?

My lurcher loves other dogs of his type, greyhounds, whippets etc. He behaves quite differently than he does with other breeds, far more relaxed.
Also, my Labrador's first doggy friends were red setters and she always went real silly when she saw any red setter clearly thinking they could be her friends! So I would say they definitely know the different breeds!

Looks like they are having fun. I'm sure they do recognise their own breed, Sophie loves other Cavaliers, but she also loves cats! Not sure what that tells me.
