Beautiful to look out on - the bridge across the stream makes a lovely focal point for this photo be a nice Christmas card from your home.

Cold and icy here but none of this yet.

This would make a pretty Christmas card.
We have lots of snow today.
More than earlier in the week !

5 Feb, 2009

~that looks lovely Dawn! All you need is the lamp post and you can double for Narnia!

5 Feb, 2009

Beautiful,

Awww, thanks everyone, I just took a few photos this morning when I walked around with Bonnie. Snow stopped here now and they say it will sleet - I may dash out to the shops as he traffic is moving normally now, were crawling past earlier.
Arlene: The wild garlic grows on the area over the bridge, so it's quite contained and doesnt take over the garden, you told me it can be invasive, it does look lovely though when in flower.

5 Feb, 2009

Lovely photo of your winters garden.

5 Feb, 2009

that's good Dawn~better not to have the problem than try to fix it! ~The seeds will blow on the wind though so it might be worth pulling out the odd ones you find elsewhere or you may get more than you bargained for!

5 Feb, 2009

Thanks Arlene and everyone else for your kind comments.

5 Feb, 2009

So true Arlene - they grow wild right through the woodland by us and the aroma not to everyones taste.Mind you keep you safe from spooky nocturnal vists ! oooooooooooo

5 Feb, 2009

It looks beautiful Dawn , so clean and crisp .. It,s a shame to walk on it . It will make a lovely card . !

5 Feb, 2009

Thanx Amy and PoetG - yes, very crisp today, perfect snow. BB: the garlic aroma is very strong, can't imagine eating the leaves and I'm a garlic lover - no vampires for us here, lol.

5 Feb, 2009

The woods behind us have banks and banks of wild garlic...very pungent. Hope you managed to get some supplies in !

5 Feb, 2009

Yes, Ray/Jane, stocked up today, escaped from the house about lunchtime when the roads were OK :-) Didnt get any garlic, lol.

5 Feb, 2009

: )

5 Feb, 2009

That is stunning Dawnsaunt. what a lovely view.

6 Feb, 2009

yes BB know where you are going! Our bluebell wood was nothing but Bluebells when we first arrived years ago~ but they are fighting a losing battle with the garlic which is now everywhere~such a shame!
Often when it is in flower the dogs come back reeking of garlic...

6 Feb, 2009

Beautiful.

6 Feb, 2009

Beautiful scene, straight out of a Hollywood movie.

6 Feb, 2009

Thanks DoctorBob, that means alot :-)

6 Feb, 2009

Thanks Majeek and Toto. As regards the smell of garlic Arlene on the dogs, well I prefer it on my mushrooms, lol.

6 Feb, 2009

me too!

6 Feb, 2009

Agree garlic mushrooms..yum yum !

6 Feb, 2009

Preferably with garlic bread, Mmmmm. Anyway, what do you do with wild garlic - is it the leaves you eat as opposed to the bulbs??

6 Feb, 2009

That is a gorgeous photo Daunt....absolutely beautiful....what a fab garden!

7 Feb, 2009

What a gorgeous scene! Already mentioned but the perfect Christmas Card!!

7 Feb, 2009

Dont know Dawn but you wont catch me eating them ! lol

7 Feb, 2009

Thanks Janey and Jasmine, still lots of snow around today. A neighbour said you use the leaves in salad, I think I will leave it growing where it is, lol.

7 Feb, 2009

Dont blame you Dawn...us too lol.How is the weather with you ?

7 Feb, 2009

Well, it was very cold last night. My lovely daughter didnt take her key with her last night when she went out, so when I unlocked the door at 2.10am it was actually minus 9.4 ... but the sun has been shining but we still have a few inches of snow around .... what about you BB.

7 Feb, 2009

Freezing cold all day,and just a light sprinkling of snow.Needless to say you know who were out in force eating all day long.Put some mealworms in crevice of old tree again and the wren went in on cue and snaffled them. Will do same tomorrow !

7 Feb, 2009

I went shopping today to Wilko's. Got nuts and sunflower kernels, I was like you, out there pushing meal worms into crevices, are we mad or what!! Saw the little wren again today, flying low between the trees. I'm trying to find a site where they will find the meal worms regularly so I can keep them going during the bad weather. Ive started to put seed etc. on the railway sleepers by the pond each day.

7 Feb, 2009

Dawn..Jane here for a chat...what are we like ! Same here...in and out of back door all day...sultanas here, mealworms there...are we mad ? lolMy big dish of lard, porridge oat flakes, and seed had all gone by 11 am,so made another up for the afternoon.! Check your inbox !

7 Feb, 2009

Hi Jane, couldnt get lard today - please refresh me on your recipe for the lard and porridge oats and sultanas food - amounts I mean. I hope my little wrens find the meal worms, along with the robin. I woke up this morning thinking, its light, I must get out and feed them. They had porridge and seeds for starters and nuts later, oh dear, it is tough going being a bird mummy

7 Feb, 2009

Hi Dawn...just a block of melted lard, and as much porridge as you think..it all gets coated with fat,and they love it...put mine in a rectangular dish on the ground.I add some sultanas and seeds and away.! The blackbirds and starlings love it,and that tends to mean the little birds get to enjoy the fat balls and seeds around the bird tables. Oh youre so right hard work but worth it.Had flocks of sparrows and chaffinches today like you wouldnt believe..feeding from 8 till 5

7 Feb, 2009

Thanks Jane, as soon as I get some lard I'll be baking, lol. Like you always say, if you give each type of bird what they like, then they live in harmony, well sort of ... I havent seen sparrows for a while or chaffinches :-(

7 Feb, 2009

What do you get in greatest numbers Dawn ?

7 Feb, 2009

Well it varies BB - blackbirds at the moment. A month ago we had loads of greenfinches. The blue tits and robins are always present. I havent seen the woodpecker for about a week, the long tailed tits visit now and again and the great tits are in the trees along with the gold finches, oh and the starlings visit but only 4 or 5 at a time. I havent seen the coal tit for ages. What about your nut hatch and tree creeper, are they still around, not forgetting Cyril and Twiggy ,I trust all is well in their love nest?

7 Feb, 2009

Yes Dawn..Cyril down briefly every day...seen taking monkey nuts to drey.! Who for ??? presume all is well there ! Only had a couple of greenfinches visit but nuthatch and tree creeper still around. There is some sort of pattern I feel.

7 Feb, 2009

That's spectacular! It would make a lovely Christmas card.

7 Feb, 2009

Yes, BB, I agree, there is a pattern, but where do they go when they're not around.

Sounds like Cyril is being the perfect husband or father??

7 Feb, 2009

Hope so Dawn ! Think they trawl the neighourhood to check out the menu ! lol

7 Feb, 2009

Probably they do, dont blame them but I bet BB's and Dawn's eatiery's are hard to beat - but they're probably at Jaque's!

7 Feb, 2009

Agree LOL..Jacques are definitely the ones to beat !!!

7 Feb, 2009

You have a really beautiful garden,thank-u for sharing it with us

8 Feb, 2009

Thanks TeenyWeeny - not so much snow around now but they are forecasting more for us tonight!!!

9 Feb, 2009

You use the leaves in the same way as you use chives. I used to have a small patch in my garde but I think they drowned.

10 Feb, 2009

Thanks Toto, probably give it a try ... but not when I'm likely to be with people the next day, lol.

10 Feb, 2009

You certainly have a beautiful spot to call your own, hope you can take the time out to enjoy it often....Thanks for sharing. This one has gone to my favs.

18 Feb, 2009

Aww, thanks FLC. I do like to spend the majority of my time in the garden. We have a block setting of corsican pines adjacent to the one on the left and at the weekend I set 100 snowdrops under them :-) I will set more next Spring and hopefully the first ones will spread too.
