Giant's Head, missing an eye brow.

Giant's Head, missing an eye brow.

This picture was taken in appalling weather in March 2008 on a visit to The Lost Gardens of Heligan. The mud sculptures on the woodland walk. Having looked at this image hundreds of times, I only noticed yesterday that due to all the rain, presumably, the poor old giant had his left eye brow, which was planted with primroses , missing. If you look closely, you can see the clod of earth with the primrose eye brow sitting next to his nose, just under his eye. Fantastic mud sculpture, all the same.

I'd love to visit the Lost Gardens. I don't think I would have noticed the missing eyebrow!

No, Gee, i didn't notice it while I was there. Mind you, I was too busy wiping rain off my face and camera. I only noticed it when i set this photo as my desktop background yesterday(so it was larger than I've ever seen it before). You should visit if you can. Absolutely fantastic and that was when it was pouring with rain, blowing a gale and bitterley cold in March. But I still thoroughly enjoyed it, particularly the jungle which I'd seen many times on tv and in magazines but even in the rain it didn't disappoint. I'd love to go again in the summer or autumn, but lots of other places to go first! Probably have to wait till I retire to go in summertime as I'm too busy working in people's gardens and rarely get away. Got quite a few years to wait before I can retire though. Never mind, I'll just keep looking at my photos.

We all had a bad hairday that day, TT, it was windy and wet! Ironically, the next day was glorious but we went to Eden Project so we would have been able to stay indoors there if the weather was bad. Nevermind, we enjoyed the trip anyway.

Lost Gardens of Heligan are near St austell in Cornwall. They're well worth a visit. Fantastic!
The Eden Project was a good day out and fantastically well run. It is more (to my mind) about science and the environment than gardening and is very interesting, but not as appealing for a day out to me as great gardens like Heligan.

ah yeah, id prob agree, de eden is run scientificly. tink der trying that method, der is a name, its growing stuff without soil... im not into that in gardening, stuff should be allowed to grow naturely,, thats my myth anyhows,,,

Yes, I prefer to take the traditional route in the garden. But a very interesting day out, particularly I would think for inquisitive youngsters. I'm glad I went.

Thanks Amy,
Yes I think I saw your photo. The main reason I put this one on was the missing eye brow. I'd taken the photo nearly 11 months before i noticed the brow had fallen out!

Looks familiar as well Paul. As I said before I'm in Cornwall within walking distance of the Eden Project. Did you go there as well?. Also a fab garden called Pine Lodge Gardens, is one not to miss.

Didn't go to Pine Lodge Pam but we went to the Eden Project. It was stunning but Heligan was more my cup of tea. Eden Project is more science than gardening really, isn't it? But I was glad we went. Heligan is just spectacular and that was on a horrible wet, windy day in spring so goodness knows how wonderful it must be later in the summer on a sunny day!
