Cutting and splitting an old oak that came down, a couple of years ago, in a storm.
I've been away since November.

For those who commented and 'liked' this photo, thanks.
We have been away, in warmer climes, but have returned to winter. I can't grumble as we chose to live here because of the four seasons and, of course, winter is one.
Catfinch,Gilli and Janey...... it was 'taken' in the evening and it was a cold day (that's frost on the grass). As I get older, the "cutting and splitting" sessions get harder (and shorter). Still it keeps me fit and an hours work keeps me warm and provides enough fuel for a few days cooking and heating.
We had a severe storm in 2006 and several large trees , together with my roof, came a cropper. Still, "It's an ill wind" as they say and the trees are slowly being recycled as fuel.

We have those ill winds here too that provide fire wood and also the trees that have grown too close togther and then have died for one reason or another that keep us warm...very grateful for their sacrifice as I have been warming my garage while I work in it to make storage for my things as I prepare to lease out my actual home and have sales...it has warmed enough here that I have been able to finally get out and pull weeds from around my brand new baby tulips and daffodils working to be born!..So nice to be able to do that again...!

That pic brings back some memories, very important for the Log burners and open Fires...
