There are very few Coconuts growing in Southern California...they don't like our cool nights in Winter. I've read that the Malayan variety seems to be growing in some areas of S. Cal pretty well.

The tallest Coconut palm known in California is in Newport Beach. It has been in the ground for 20 years and is only about 20 feet/ 6.1 meters tall...what I'm trying to say is to see coconuts palms as tall as these in this photo would be virtually impossible. LOL!
