Nice shot. Is it the weight of one of your cakes that's bending his head over?

Hi Maureen ... I want some sparrows :-) Loads (or should I say flocks) around here when I was a child but they're almost gone now. This is a lovely photo :-)

Hi Dawn, we have got a few, but not as many as we used to have around. SP has now got some plans for making sparrow colony nesting boxes, so when he has a waking moment....{big joke} hes going to make some and put them up to see if we can encourage more.....

I have three of these colony nest boxes which I made some years ago and they have been just about fully occupied in the past. This year I put up an additional single occupancy box and none of them has had any takers as yet. I'm still hopeful but time is running out.

Hi Toto, We have had a magazine through from Soar Mill Seeds, and in there they do say that sparrows are a colony bird, and just wont go for the single nest, but maybe you will attract one of the Tit family into it before long............

Great Pic Milky :) Love Little Sparrows so good to see other members getting them in their gardens :)
31 Mar, 2009
But they haven't even gone into the colony boxes this year and I used to get them into the single boxes when I had them up years ago.

Very Strange Toto, maybe their habits are changing as well....We have seen Long Tail Tits in the garden for the 1st time ever, so who knows whats going on in the bird world.............
31 Mar, 2009
Long tailed tits have entered the top ten garden birds for the first time in thirty years. It's wonderful, but I still want my sparrows back.

Youve got vultures ...dont be greedy...........he he he

Great that the long tailed tits have made the top ten this year - on the bird watch day we actually had 6 of them visit - gorgeous birds, but wish I had sparrows :-( I occasionally see a few but not like when I was a child here, love how they all chirp away together :)
31 Mar, 2009
Yes its lovely Dawn, they are singing away out here all day, flying backwards and forwards accross the garden.........

Normally the sparrows have the left over bits of wildebeest. Who's going to clear up now. The blue tits may not be able to lift the femurs. Perhaps the foxes will help out!

I do hope so Toto, otherwise you know who.s left to clear up dont you...........RATS...................
