Yes Irish it does look like a Water Hyacynth and like Sid says they are not hardy I lost all mine, but hope yours does welll!

Yes such a shame as they spread like crazy all about to bloom then cold snap and gone .. think in more temperate zones in US known as beautiful nuisance as it blocks large rivers and waterways so no dropping it in the Liffey , Eileen !

Ok Sid,youve got the sat nav set.Did you read about the fool in the paper ?His sat nav was sending him over a cliff ..yards from the edge he thought this cant be right .

Hi Eileen - I had these last year - it's a water hyacinth - did you know they're not hardy? If we have any frosts you need to bring it indoors. I put mine in the greenhouse over winter, but it was so cold it froze in there too and none survived :-( They look good in the pond tho - my fish loved to hide among the roots :-)
