Hi Arizonacat welcome to Goy,
I suppose it will be a shock to the system moving from Colorado to Arizona, a complete rethink on the gardening front. I have a friend who lives in Denver and I cant believe the extremes of weather they get there!
A kind of cheating way of planning your garden which we use in the UK is when you move to a new area simply look at what your nieghbours are growing and pick the plants that you like and which fit in with your scheme.
