I was surprised to find so many in bloom today!

They are really lovely, such dark flowers against the blue/green fabulous!

They obviously like where you have planted them.

Love the deep purple colour!

Gorgeous! And the leaves look healthy too! Is this quite a short variety Barbara? The flws look quite low in the leaves - I think mine stand up above the leaves on longer stalks....?

Yes, I suppose they are, Sid. I have two clumps of these in the back garden, and more Irises in the side garden - one of those is about to flower (for the first time), and the stem is a lot taller. It didn't flower last year and was new the previous year.

I have just been out looking at my mystery Iris that i found here when we moved, and they are just starting to show colour and the bud looks like a very simular colour to these! OOOHHHHHH i do hope so.

That would be great, :-) But we still wouldn't know its name... :-(

I checked one of my irises on the weekend - one that was new a couple of years ago and got a bit too shaded by other plants so I moved it - anyway, it's got a bud! And it looks quite short like this one Barbara. I do hope it's a nice colour like this one........The lable is in front of me and has about 7 different coloured varieties - one is very dark purple and another is orangy - I hope it's one of those....the other colours are a bit too light for me - one is an insipid white/yellow bicolour - hope it doesn't turn out to be that one! Now i've gone and jixed it.......

You sound just like me and my gladioli! When I joined the RHS, I got a free gift of some summer bulbs. I planted the gladioli (mixed, no names) and was not happy with some rather garish colours that messed up my colour scheme! So last year I waited for them to come up, hoping that the lovely mauve and the maroon ones would flower again - but did they? No - of course not! So this year, out they will go and I have some pretty pink dwarf ones ready to pop in from their pots.

Yes, I had some like that off a magazine - they came up yellow with an orangy red throat - I like bright colours but I was not too keen at all on those! I have a couple of the species ones - they're nice :-)

That's what my ones were like! Today I dug them up and plonked them in the wide border where the colours are 'hot'. I was astonished to see two that I dug up last year and virtually 'threw' in the soil - coming up happily!
So where they were, I have some dwarf pink ones - now planted from their pots.

Hope they will look great :-)

Definitely better than orange with yellow inside and vice-versa!
I posted a photo of my single tall Iris tonight - did you see it, Sid?
