How pretty - just love those flecks and darker splotches on the petals. Is this Hibiscus 'Mathilde'?

Thanks Bernieh.

Lovely - hope ours flowers this year tend to get a little confused between Lavatera and Hibiscus as names commonly applied to each group.

Have a variety called Barnsley which think may be Lavatera - but then all closely related ..

Thanks all. One thing with Hibiscuus is that they don't get out of control Bonkers and I still think that their flowers are better.

Had me worried there Toto, until I saw the date! Mine is only just showing signs of life.

I have four in the garden. The one in the pic which is the parent of two of the others and one in a pot which has not flowered yet and the seeds of which came from a white one. They are all at about the same stage which is probably the same as yours, just showing the leaf buds.

This is a beautiful Hibiscus! I love the flower colors!
Thanks for posting this photo for me! : > )

How tall do these plants grow?

20 Apr, 2009

I'm not exactly sure how tall it will eventually grow, but this one is between five and six feet and is quite a few years old. My Dad has one (not the same) in his garden which is about 10ft tall but that is cut back every year so am not sure how high it would be if it wasn't cut back. Whatever, they are slow growing.

Toto:

Thanks for the info. I know I have seen some species/varieties of Hibiscus almost 50 feet / 15 meters tall. These are mostly the tropical species.

I doubt that this one will grow anywhere near as tall as the ones you mention, and even if they do, I won't be alive to see it.

Toto:

Yes, many of the temperate Hibiscus species stay below 15 feet/ 4.6 meters...however, the tropical species can grow to be very large trees -- like I mentioned above.
