We have Magpies but I hate them, they target other birds eggs and young. Look nice, though. Funny how the villains always look well .... mmm

Last year we had a pair of doves nesting in the ceanothus. Their nest was so flimsy I was afraid that the eggs would fall through so I collected some very small twigs and left them below on the ground. Well - I don't know if the doves collected them but they sure disappeared. Several times we heard a commotion and saw the magpie flying round the area. We could see the babies when they hatched and then a couple of days later they had gone and the parents just kept coming back to the nest. I noticed the other day that they seem to have returned to the same spot to nest again. I hope the maggies leave the nest alone this time.
