I am very fond of her - the colour and her name, too, as I have huge respect for her namesake!

Me too Spritz. What a wonderful woman she was.

I think she still IS, Toto! I read an article by her just recently. :-)

Great - get out there with your camera tomorrow! :-)

Yes I think you right Spritz. I think I was getting her mixed up with Gertrude Jekyll.

I've just checked Google and found that Beth Chatto was born in 1923 so she would now be 86 years of age so she may well have a few more years yet.

Not surprised - I hope so. No idea whether she has a family but it would be awful if her garden was in danger, like Christopher Lloyd's.

If there is no family then perhaps the RHS or National Trust would take it on. It would be a tradegy to lose it.
8 May, 2009
Yes, it would. Have you been there? Great nursery, too!

No I haven't been yet, just seen programmes on the television and articles in magazines. Being near Colchester it's not too far from me either and admission is only £5-00 so may make it this year. Hopefully. I usually end up at Hyde Hall which is only a short distance (13 or so miles) from me and Wisley.

I'd love to visit Hyde Hall - I've been to Wisley and Rosemoor. Our son lives in Harwich, so if/when we go up to see him, I might just get to Hyde Hall. I assume H.H has a good Nursery, like the others? I love browsing for something different!
8 May, 2009
The last time I went to Hyde Hall was early last summer. At that time the nursery section was not that big but Hyde Hall has been developing over the years, especially since the RHS took it over. A friend of mine has already visited it this year and has told me that it has been developed even further and the nursery and visitor centre is now much bigger as are the grounds. I will be visiting again soon. I hope.

Sounds good to me. :-)
