I Like it Loads Amy & id of stopped 2 watch them 2 :) Many times iv seen Ponys /Horses In Fields & parked My Car up & gone to stroke them :)

I always have to stroke horses and ponies. It's like a magnet to me as I've ridden for years and years but had to give it up when I had my eyes operated on. We have one or two come up the road and I go out and hug them. There is something about the wonderful smell of the horse and the warmth. A girl came up the road one day where we used to live and was having trouble with her large throroughbred in the road, he was frightened and she was up tight, so I ran out and grabbed him and spoke to him gently and led him into the side road. I stopped and patted him and my husband came out and I asked him to go and get a rope from the garage. I made a rope halter and put it over the horses head and led them home.

I know what u mean about their smell Lin :) it always gives me a Happy feeling inside & all my memorys come flooding back of the fantastic times i shared with my own ponys which i sadly had to give up due to my little family coming along ,

I always make a little whinny noise to them and stroke their noses and breathe out near their noses although be aware for the bite if they try it on. I talk gently to them as well and even when I was out riding I used to talk to them but used my harsh voice if I was displeased with their actions if they misbehaved. I wasn't a crop user and I kept that as the last resort although depending on the animal it just made matters worse I always thought. I learned about dressage and did a bit of jumping but was never any good in the ring with folks watching me, so was content to just enjoy what I did and we used to ride on the beach and I did dressage their on the flattened sand. We used to canter through the waves coming in and it was lovely.

I used to drive as well with a cart and learned about the different harnesses. One went over their head and another was called a breast harness that went across their chest at the front. I loved it. You see the power from a different angle and have to talk to them when you want to go left right or ahead, or stop etc. You also have to learn about the lengh of the whole lot that you are in control of ie getting around corners. You are never too old to ride and the excercise does the whole of your body good.

I only Rode Lin & did some Jumping @ Small Local shows where my Ponys were kept :) im not as experienced @ the lovely things u did yourself :) & your rite your never to old :)

There's still time for you Jacque to learn more and do more when your family gets a little older.

My Husband use to ride , his sister use to ride at point to point races when she was younger ..

My daughter had lessons when she was younger she loves riding but finds it far to expensive now that she has children of her own . :o(

She said that her best experiance was riding in the hills and through a waterfall in Mexico , I thought of you in Egypt Jacque

I can imagine Jacque , that was a huge wrench for you , Did you see those poor horses that had been ill treated in the EDP today ,it couldn,t get off the ground it was all skin and bones , the vets had to support it in a sling for 6 wks until it was strong enough to support itself , it was full of lice ...... :o(

:( O No Poor Thing :( I dont buy News Papers Amy they up set me to much :(

5 Jun, 2009

That's shocking.......those people should never ever be allowed to keep any animals at all for the rest of their lives. Trouble is in some circumstances people take on animals without knowing anything about how to keep them or how much that it is going to cost either and so get themselves into difficulties and it's usually the animal that suffers. Sometimes people's circumstances change moneywise and then they haven't the heart to give up the animal even though they can't really afford to keep it. There ought to be an animal helpline.

When our children were small we had horses and ponies, and rescued this lovely old boy called Deano who was half Clydesdale, when we rode him it was like sitting in an armchair and as we were only novice rides....he would tolerate us so far then make for home again..Lol.......Ian spent ages making him a little trap and he would trot in front of that for miles....a real gentle giant...:o)
