I have loved these black ones for ages and would love to grow them! What kind of care do they need, and where can I get a specimen? What is the name of the black kind? AMAZING!!!

There Gorgeous DD, one day i will have a collection like this.. I promised myself..

Cherry they are tender, we take them indoors in the winter, but they live outside all summer long.
The black one is called Aeonium Swartzkoph. We bought our first one 15 years ago in the midlands, have not seen them on sale, a specialist nursery would be your best bet.

Fabulous Dd...used to have these in my Spanish garden, and loved them..could snap a stem off and plant it straight into the poor stony soil and off it went....a wonderful lemon coloured cone flower was an added bonus in the winter.........

What soil do they need Dotty? I love them...used to have some but kept them in an old sink & the vine weevil grubs ate them from the bottom up...as they do. Do they need water or are they a desert type of thing?

Sorry I never got back to anyone on this, have just picked this thread up....Fluff if you are still around, they need very little water, esp in winter, and just enough to keep the petals plump in the summer, the soil is a gritty mix, also the odd feed now and again, we have started a collection of them now.
Sandra looking at the one on the right of the picture, I believe it is an aeonium, and in need of some water, I will post a much better picture of it for you.
Janey unfortunately thay have never flowered here, obviously not hot enough.
Brandie the black is my favourite too.

Sandra they are in the house, all over the place, I must admit I find naming succulents very confusing, had three books on tropical plants for Christmas, thought it would help!! Uma and Hywel have been very helpful on naming some of them, have posted a nice pic of the one on the right of the picture, looks better now than it did in the summer lol
