The first time we went to Ireland we were puzzled as to what the red lines were seperating the fields , it was only when you were closer that you could see it was fuschia hedging , we were amazed by it , stunning !

Reminds of the roads we drive over in Wales...sheep get in the way every once in a while..lol...but the flowers growing out the sides are like this..yes..just gorgeous...not a road or lane like it here where I live at all...should be..makes me home sick to get right back all the sooner seeing this Irish...
3 Jun, 2009

4 Jun, 2009
Do you think they may be wild Valerian Eileen? My Mum has the pink in her garden and it looks like this....:o)
4 Jun, 2009
i googled images of Valerian Janey and some of the pic do look like these
4 Jun, 2009
we get a wild red Valerian on walls and things,Janey. This looks like a lovely place to walk~have the fuchsias gone wild the way Crocosmia and Rhododendron have or is it still deliberately planted?
4 Jun, 2009
the fushia's have def gone wild. although this hedge was prob planted
the Rhododendron's are a real threat to our native flora
4 Jun, 2009
my kind of scene...Irish

thanks Deida

Hmmm..we have wild Rhodies here but they do not seem to be a threat to much of anything..our trees in the forests that they grow in are so big that the Rhodies do well to even stay at all..the worst scourge we have now it the Scotch Broom which I was totally shocked and apalled to see being sold in garden centers in Wales..LOL..I pruned one for GF to help it along and I could not believe I was nurturing one in his garden...lol..oh my goodness..our roads are lined with it and it takes over the pastures. I have known the battle with it all my life.
6 Jun, 2009
we sell Scotch Broom here too in garden centres, my sister recently bought 8 of them lol.
in Kerry in one of our national parks the forest floor is bare, nothing not even our native Oak trees can grow.
a lot of the Rhodie's have been cleared now thanks to volunteers so hopefully things will start growing again
6 Jun, 2009
The only place I have seen the wild rhodies here take over are in the Olympic Mt.s, high in the timber lines, where it has been cleared by loggers..there are open fields of them, but they are very stunted and when the trees begin to grow again, they seem to loose ground ...down lower they tend to be tall and gangly, growing up into the lower tree limbs and blooming in odd places that you don't expect to see a Rhodie bloom at all..it is one of my favorite times of year when they are blooming in the forests..we have to take them out in the pastures as they are poisoness to horses..as is Scotch broom.

Hmmm very explorable

Beautiful Eileen..... This is indeed Valerian.

That's beautiful Irish. I started my honeymoon overlooking Dublin Bay, before moving on to Bantry Bay. Such a beautiful country - home of my ancestors. :-)
