Gorgeous! Such a stunning color. It has a great shape early on in blooming like this. I'll be brave enough to try some rose more exotic roses one day. Our temps don't permit much, they would have to be potted and high maintenance. You've a great collection of things and a wonderful garden. I loved looking through. Keep posting.

Hi Greenthumb, I've only just realised where you're from. It's a lovely rose but it's all happening at the top. I'll have to do something about that next year and see if I can encourage something lower down. I'm pleased you like it.

Hi PP, it is lovely, isn't it? I'll try for another pic soon providing the rain doesn't knock all its petals off first!

Hi Keithsmum...
My Rose Handel is flowering rather high.
What time of year do you plan to prune yours ?
5 Jul, 2009
Hi TT - Probably will prune in February (I read that somewhere!). It was a poor thing in a tub that hubby brought home from his parents' house when he was clearing it five years ago. I was sort of expecting it to have done better after that length of time but it still looks better than it did!

:-) 100% sunshine for now Kmum.

Handel does have a tendancy to flower "at the top". All I can suggest is when the new shoots are still quite whippy, bend them over and tie in to encourage vertical shoots. It is a strong grower and can get large thick stems. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Amblealice, I'll remember that.

That's absolutely gorgeous.

I've just planted a real 'Handel' after one labelled as 'Handel' turned out to be a pink one...certainly NOT Handel!

Hi Spritzhenry - yes, I saw that post. What a disappointment for you but it's still a lovely plant nonetheless. Did you ever discover what it is? I'm so pleased you managed to get Handel after all.

That is some rose, what a stunning colour.

I'm just pleased it's survived me. If I didn't have it already, it would be on the wish list!

Its now on mine.......

You wont be disappointed.
