Great shot would take me hundreds of goes to get close ..quite familiar with these and their tell tale chunks out of rose leaves esp ..

Thanks all. I leave at least one plant pot in the greenhouse with no saucer which gives them access to the drainage holes around the bottom edge. They take their pieces of leaf in there and lay their eggs in the tubes they make from them. You just need to be prepared to sacrifice one plant as when the grubs hatch the larvae feed on the roots.

Great idea ! Having said that the patterns they make on the rose leaves are quite attractive ! Lol

You'll still get the patterns as they still need to collect their leaves to make the cells ito which they lay their eggs.

Well they are welcome !

Thanks for this, Toto, now I know what was in my greenhouse the other morning. I tried to take a photo of a 'wasp' carrying a leaf. I often have to rescue bees from the greenhouse so I did the same for the wasp. He was not happy and eventually dropped the leaf and flew away! He was probably upset that I was calling him a wasp :)

I see white flags flagging him in :) Nice action shot.

Thanks all.

I've seen the leaves after they've been cut but a couple of days ago I saw one at work and was amazed at the speed with which it cut and flew off - I had thought it would be quite a slow process, like a slug munching. How wrong can you be? Lol.

They are wonderful workers Wagger; so industrious. The cutting of the leaf is only the beginning of the process.

A lesson for us there, Toto?

9 Jul, 2009

Only for the women Wagger as the male of the species already fulfills this criteria. What do you think of that for an answer Bonkers?

9 Jul, 2009

Shall we gang up on him, girls? Teach him a lesson?

10 Jul, 2009

Don't run away now Bonkers, those crazy females are looking for trouble.

10 Jul, 2009

Dont they always..they wait until one of us is absent then home in ! Typical and sly tactics !

11 Jul, 2009

You know them so well.

12 Jul, 2009

We'll take you on together - come on, show us what you're made of! On second thoughts, perhaps not!

12 Jul, 2009

Wise decision Wagger. Speaking for myself I think there is a certain bliss in ignorance.
