No, we're the same, our strawbs had lots of flowers but hardly any berries......I'm wondering if ours are just ornamental ones...Lol!

I'm going to put winter pansies in my strawberry pot, Clarice. I haven't had one strawberry this year!
I remember making strawberry wine years ago and bottled it too soon. The corks shot out in the middle of the night and the wine went all over my (then) husband's suit. He was not amused :)

It looks really scrummy - any chance of a recipe?
I've had that many goes at growing strawbs over the years - none of them successful - my Dad was really successful with them - I've tried growing them in the ground & in a Strawberry pot but nothing helped- our pot now has house leeks in (well I had to justify buying it!)

I know how you feel Twiggy, our strawbs were in the ground this last couple of years and the flowers were beautiful vivid red, but what few berries there were were small and munched by slugs and snails, so this year we put them in planting bags, but just the same result and watering them wasn't easy asthe top remained dry and the bottom soggy.....shall just enjoy the flowers from now on.
I'll pm you tomorrow with the wine recipe......:o)

Do you actually get to bottle yours Indy or is it straight from the demi-jon into the glass like us......:o)
3 Oct, 2009
Oh yes I make sure I bottle some, the trick is to make so much you have to bottle it cos you need the demijons for the next batch, I try to keep a cellar of 200+ bottles going but well... lets just say it takes a hammering through winter and spring shall we, and most of it is a min of 14% up to 21% by vol so its quite difficult to drink too much at once, (hic burp sshloverly)

200+.....!!!!!!! Crikey occifer......can see the reasoning though..Lol! Ian has about 6 djs popping at the moment...can't wait till its ready....have you ever tried Elderflower champagne.....its lurrrvly......it begins to sparkle a year after its made when the bushes are in flower again....:o)
