One of my favourites. I'm looking forwrd to seeing mine soon, the shoots are beginning to push through the soil.

I added one to my garden about three years ago and it has gone from strength to strength. It made such a strong start this year that I decided to split it and plant a piece in the partially restored bed in my partner's garden. This week's cold snap has held back both the original plant and the rehoused piece but they both look as if they will take off again as soon as the weather improves. I split a bergenia at the same time which the muntjac have defoliated but they do not seem to have a taste for dicentra.

Fantastic photo ! Nothing screams spring like bleeding heart and muscari.

How come I don't get the flowers of Dicentra until June? I have never seen or thought of it as a Spring flower.

David - sorry to deceive you!! But I took this photo last year - my dicentra isn't in flower yet, in fact it has only just shown above ground - I've just been adding plants to the site's plant section/my garden bit. Sorry again!

Xela - I'm glad yours is doing so well - I've had mine a few years and it increases in size slightly every year, but doesn't seem to thrive. Still, it is a lovely thing to have.

No worries, Sid! I love this pic of the Dicentra with the muscari. Here, I could never dream of seeing the two together in bloom, they belong to different "seasons" (I note your comment, however, Flcrazy).

Luckily here David, in the States my muscari and dicentra spectabilis are both in full boom by the 2nd week of April.

yes, Fl, you are lucky to get this great colour and shape combination together - love it! Muscari here are not quite in bloom yet (unless bought in pots grown artificially), but the Dicentra definitely belongs to summer!
