Looks like a Erythrina crista-galli. Lovely plant!

This looked like a shrub, but it grows into a tree ?
Most unusual flowers.

Only a shrub here often getting cut back to the ground in winter but does make a tree in its native areas, take a look at a pic by Delonix,

It can grow into a pretty large tree here in San Diego. There's a large tree around the corner from where I live.

Here's the one around the corner from me. It's much bigger now that its recovered from being butchered.

No, it is not in my garden here in Canada. I do not think I can grow it here. It is photo from the neighbours yard in Mexico. But now I am back on Vancouver Island and it is raining---mostly :-(
I have seen some of the pictures in your "space" here on GOY Delonix. I love the flower's on this tree.

I was going to be very surprised if it was your plant (because ones here are just starting to bloom). I know E. crista-galli is one of the hardiest Erythrina and I would think you could grow it outdoor there. There's a large tree in Washington DC, outdoors.

There's dozens of very widely grown Erythrina species which grow here in San Diego...most are very tender to cold!

I have never seen it in the gardens on Vancouver Island. This photo was taken (probably) on March 26 in central Mexico and it was in full bloom. Seemed like a young tree. I thought (originally) that it was a shrub.
You are fortunate to see it in bloom as a large tree.
I have seen the pictures in your gallery but it is never same as in real life.

It's possible, it could be a little too wet. This tree likes it on the dry side.

The trees around here usually start to bloom in March...this year they're blooming a little late. The big tree around the corner from me blooms on-and-off throughout the year. I'll be taking pics from that tree soon.

I'm going to have to get a photo very fast. The butchers are out there again! They just (today) cut back to the trunks all the very tall Ficus bejamina (weeping fig) trees, they look horrible!!!

Who are the 'Butchers'? City people? We have them around as well.

The tree is located at a private business.

The butchers are "tree trimmers" who prune trees who have no business or experience pruning trees! They just arbitrary cut branches anywhere and know nothing about branch structure. I see it all the time here. I hate it! :>(

I have some bad news. The butchers cut down the weeping figs tress and the very tall Erythrina crista-galli. I'm so, so sad! The tree was most likely about 45 - 50 years old (and it was just about to bloom). :>((

Luckily, there's many other large E. crista-galli trees in San Diego, CA.

Oh no. It is always sad when people are whacking beautiful trees for no good reason.

Yes, it really is sad. Those trees were the types of trees that gave you a good feeling when you saw them. I saw them every time I drove out of my neighborhood. I'm just so glad I got some good photos of the E. crista-galli over the years.

There's was another tree that was cut down a few weeks ago in front of a motel, which was just down the street from the E. crista-galli. The Majesty palm (Ravenea rivularis) was so gorgeous and tall! Unfortunately, I never got a photo of this 25ft (7.6m) tall palm. :>(
