Thanks Leigh.

I love the Congo imapatiens! I've been growing them for almost 20 years.

I've stuck my I.niamianensis in the ground, although I've taken a cutting as a back up!

26 Jun, 2012

That's a good idea. It grows much larger in the ground. Although, you will definitely have to remove it before the cold weather. It's not a hardy plant at all.

It'll be sacrificed and I'll rely on the cuttings.............

27 Jun, 2012

It typically needs to be replaced every couple of years, anyway (I mean cut into many pieces for cuttings).

Tip cuttings?

27 Jun, 2012

You can cut a stem into many pieces and all the pieces will germinate. That's been my experience, anyway.

What kind of lengths? I could open up a nursery mine are so "leggy"!

28 Jun, 2012

Meanie:

A couple of inches. They tend to get leggy in about a year or two...then start to decline. I had some in the ground in the front yard - they did well for a year...then they kept drying out. I finally pulled them out and cut them up for cuttings.

28 Jun, 2012

Thanks for that - I'll be starting my own Congo Impatiens nursery soon!

28 Jun, 2012

That's great! You'll have many very soon. The cuttings will develop roots quickly!

28 Jun, 2012

I'll have to hold back a little or I'll be over-run!

28 Jun, 2012

You most likely you will. lol! :>)
